How to Analyze a Political Cartoon
Political cartoons are graphic opinions about current events. To understand the meaning of political cartoons, look for caricature (ludicrous distortion of the physical features of figure(s) in cartoon), symbolism (representation of a country of a country or key concept using a well-known animal or folkloric figure such as Uncle Sam), and allusion (reference to popular or classical culture such as a well-known saying, a movie, television show, fairy tale, historical event, etc.). Use these cartoonists' techniques to discern the meaning or message of the cartoon
